ATTRACT BIRDS INTO YOUR GARDEN IN THE WINTER WITH PERENNIALS

No need to maintain, fill and clean the bird feeders during the winter, you can attract birds into your garden in the winter with just a few simple steps:
  1. Select a site for planting perennials which attract birds in an area of your garden where you can view them in the winter.
  2. Plant groups of bird friendly perennials that produce large seed heads in the fall such as Rudbeckia Goldsturm , Echinacea or Sambucus Black Beauty , just to name a few.
  3. Do not trim back the plants before going into winter but rather allow the large seed heads to form.
When selecting perennials for winter birds look for varieties that produce seed heads late in the fall and exhibit strong, sturdy stems that can resist breakage from winter winds and snow. You will find that by planting a few bird friendly perennials in you garden you will attract winter birds all season long.

Tip: If you have cats or other predator animals, plant shrubs such as Redtwig Dogwood or Spiraea Snowmound, adjacent to the perennials which will provide cover and winter habitat for winter birds.
